Hello Kitty Fashion Interview 0

Some of you may remember me mentioning at the start of 2011 how I was interviewed to feature in a future Hello Kitty magazine. Well, after several months of hearing nothing, the magazine has launched and hit the shelves of newsagents around the United Kingdom.

It’s called Hello Kitty Fashion and the first of a series of magazines. The first magazine features Lady Gaga on the cover and consists of the obvious, Hello Kitty and fashion. As for me, I’m a well-known Hello Kitty fanatic and that’s why I was approached by the magazine’s editor who wanted my participation. I was sent a questionnaire to fill in, along with digitally forwarding them photographs of my collection along with a photo of myself. Unfortuantely I was doing lots of other projects at the time so I didn’t have time to sit and model for amazing photos so I forwarded them an old, unedited one featuring my Tarina Tarantino necklace. Looking back, I wish I made the effort to take a better photograph.

I’m featured in the Crazy about Kitty section, a spread of interviews from Hello Kitty fanatics around the world.

Here’s a transcript of my interview:

When did your obsession with Hello Kitty begin?
My obsession began seven years ago, back when I was 13 and I came across a Japanese shop that specialised in Sanrio and Hello Kitty.

What was the first item in your Hello Kitty collection?
My first item was a small Hello Kitty plushie. I no longer own it, but she wore a pink t-shirt that had a cartoon puppy printed on it.

Apart from Hello Kitty, do you have any other favourite Sanrio characters?
Oh, of course. I adore Charmmy Kitty, the gorgeous white kitty that was given to Hello Kitty as a pet. I also have a soft spot for Kuromi and My Melody.

Does Hello Kitty influence your style at all?
My style is influenced by mostly by a Harajuku trend called Gothic Lolita, but I find that when I wear Hello Kitty clothing or accessories it gives a cuteness to my look, making me more approachable. I regularly wear Hello Kitty themed jewellery, commonly a gorgeous necklace made my designer Tarina Tarantino, featuring Hello Kitty styled in an adorable pink wig.

Have you got a favourite item in your Hello Kitty collection?
I’ve got a few, but my favourite is probably my Tokidoki for Hello Kitty boston bag. I spent an arm and a leg on it and have never regretted it as I know I have the cutest bag that exists!

Hello Kitty has been around for 35 years, why do you think she has managed to last for so long?
I think it’s because she is unique and physically appealing to everyone.

Is there a favourite Hello Kitty item you have seen, but don’t own?
I love the diamond necklace of Hello Kitty created by Kimora Lee Simmons.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the magazine for getting me involved, I very much appreaciate it and I wish the future of this magazine the best.
